Several weeks ago we visited two very interesting places that are located at the northwestern part of Qatar.
Our first destination was Al Zubara fort that was built in 1938 as an evidence of difficult relations between Qatar and Bahrain. In 1987 it was restored as a museum. Right now the fort is undergoing a restoration by the University of Copenhagen archeology team.
The road to Zubara Fortress.
A silhouette of the fortress from the distance.
The fort itself. Since it is going through restoration process we were not able to get inside. So we just enjoyed walking and taking pictures around the fortress.
The main entrance to the fort.
Just the glimpse of the inner court.
Strange patches on a wall that resemble stone carvings.
After we satisfied our curiosity we went for a search of the Zubara town ruins. Instead of ancient ruins we found a relatively new abandoned buildings.
First, we thought that we reached our destination.
Than we noticed that it does not look like ruins of an old village at all.
So, we decided to go home. On our way back we suddenly decided to stop on a beach to view the sunset. Unexpectedly we saw a beautiful picture. It was Al Jumail ghost town or abandoned fishing village we were looking for.
Al Jumail old minaret.
Inside the minaret. Going up.
Overview of the village ruins from the top of the minaret.
Going down.
A façade of an old masjid.
I guess once it was an exit from the masjid area.
A way to the beach.
Wonderful view from the outskirt of the village.
A top of the old house.
I was not the only one who was trying to take a nice picture of the sun . This person has been taking some shots of the sunset even before we came.
